Cell Phones
In Our Parking Lot:
Please put your phone away while in our parking lot and in our school zone. Using a cell phone while in an active school zone or in a school parking lot is against the state law unless on a hands-free device. In addition to being against the law, while you are looking at and/or talking on your phone you are not paying attention to the students who are in the parking lot for arrival/dismissal. For the sake of our Patriots’ safety, the call or text can wait.
Student Use on Campus:
Our top priority is to provide a safe, welcoming environment that sets up students for maximum academic growth and success. To help with this, there is one important reminder to our district practices regarding student technology that I want to be sure students and families are familiar with before the first day of school.
Students must keep their mobile devises powered off and in their backpacks and will not be allowed to use them during the school day. All students will have access to their iPads for classwork. If there is a medical reason to use a cell phone, that may be allowed per a 504 or health plan, with prior approval.
We understand that parents may need the ability to contact their child during the school day, so please do not hesitate to contact the office (817.744.4600) anytime and we can relay messages to students as needed.
Consequences for not following the approved campus rules related to cell phones and other electronic devices will be as follows:
- The first time the device is confiscated, parents will be notified, and the student will be able to pick up the device from the campus office at the end of the school day.
- The second time the device is confiscated, parents will be notified, the student will be able to pick up the device from the campus office at the end of the school day, and the student will serve a lunch detention.
- The third time the device is confiscated, parents will be notified, the student will be able to pick up the device from the campus office at the end of the school day, and the student will serve 1 day of In School Suspension.
- The fourth time the device is confiscated, parents will be notified, the student will be able to pick up the device from the campus office at the end of the school day, the student will serve 2 days of In School Suspension, and the student will turn the phone into the office upon arrival to school each day.
We appreciate your support as we continue to maintain a safe educational environment that is free from distractions for our students. For additional information on this topic, please see: https://www.kellerisd.net/students-families/resources/students-families-resources/phone-free-learning.
